Artificial Intelligence – a topic of interest to businesses

  • On Thursday, May 16, experts, company representatives, and members of the general public interested in cybersecurity gathered at the RHK Brno building.
  • The Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Conference focused on a range of issues related to AI and industry.
  • The event was organized by the Brno Regional Chamber of Commerce, INDUSTRY CLUSTER 4.0, and CyberSecurityHubCZ.

The conference was opened by moderator Lukáš Smelík, and the first speaker was František Podzimek from SIEMENS s.r.o. He noted that implementing artificial intelligence in industrial operations requires a unified and standardized infrastructure within the company. He pointed out that even if the integration of artificial intelligence has been developed and tested as part of a pilot project, this does not necessarily mean it will ultimately be implemented in practice. Pilot projects always simplify reality, and sometimes it turns out that integration with various systems is so complex that it would be economically unfeasible. He presented several successful examples of AI implementation in practice, e.g., a robot tending a strawberry greenhouse learned to recognize ripe strawberries and strawberry diseases using a digital twin; at its facility in Amberk, SIEMENS was able to inspect 100% of products using artificial intelligence, and for 70% of them, costly X-ray defect detection was unnecessary.

Ladislav Ruttay of META IT s.r.o. debunked some myths about AI, provided specific examples of AI applications in industry, and advised that companies should always define the benefits of implementing AI into their operations. After a thorough analysis, he recommends seeking independent consultation. After all, implementing AI is not always the right solution.

For example, in single-unit production, it makes no sense at all to consider AI, as Martin Hriško from 24 VISION a. s. noted. Training a neural network requires a massive amount of data and significant computing power. He advised that during quality control, it is important to also store data on conforming products. A hidden defect may emerge later, which would then allow the entire series to be recalled and the AI to be trained to detect that defect as well. He emphasized that deploying AI in quality control is a competitive advantage and that one must always take into account that the AI system is constantly learning.

Filip Gloser of Unicorn Systems a.s. suggested that ChatGPT is a game-changer. ChatGPT is trained on data from the internet. For AI to serve as a useful tool within a given company, it is essential that this language model be trained on corporate data, which must be well-prepared and free of erroneous information, and this data must be secure—a key theme of one of the other presentations.

Pavel Václavek from CEITEC VUT also reiterated that the intelligence of artificial intelligence depends primarily on the input data and presented an intelligent testbed that companies can use as part of their applied research.

Artificial intelligence poses a threat to cybersecurity, warned Jiří Sedláček from the Network Security Monitoring Cluster. He outlined various threats and recommended that all companies implement the minimum security standard (defined by NÚKIB), regardless of whether they are required to do so or not, and once again cautioned that people are the weakest link.

Veronika Večeřová from Intemac Solutions, s.r.o. introduced the eDIH DIGIMAT and its services, such as the Digital Transformation Academy, which companies can use free of charge. Radek Kopecký from the Brno Regional Chamber of Commerce presented CyberSecurityHubcz and its free services—the Cybersecurity Academy and cybersecurity risk assessments.

Lively networking took place both after the event and during breaks, demonstrating that the intersection of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity is a topic of interest to companies.
